Music Scene: Keith Rea and other area shows for June 23–29

Keith Rea

The bio for singer/songwriter Keith Rea reads like a meandering cross-country train ride.

His range of instrumentation is described as similar to a changing landscape, and his lyrics are likened to the “people, places and situations” he encounters along the way.

The Longview, Texas-based Rea is on tour and has several planned stops on the Western Slope, including a performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the KAFM Radio Room, 1310 Ute Ave.

Tickets cost $12 in advance and can be purchased at kafmradio.org or by calling 241-8801, ext. 223. Tickets cost $15 at the door.

Rea has been in the music business for more than 40 years and his resume of accolades features performances at a number of big-name music festivals, award nominations and honors and recognitions.

“Keith brings a wealth of experience to the stage as well as a variety of styles and genres,” according to his bio at keithrea.com.

“From love songs to train songs, Keith’s lyrics conjure stories of people, places, and situations that feel both familiar and yet somehow fresh. His instrumental stylings cover the landscape from finger picked ballads to raucous twelve bar blues,” the bio says.

He also wears the title of novelist. Rea’s novel, “Long Live Rock and Roll,” is “based on a 1980s rock band with ties to organized crime, the bio says.

Rea’s tour stops on the Western Slope include:

■ 7 p.m. Saturday July 8, at Warehouse 25Sixty-five in Grand Junction.
