A show of mammoth proportions, at least by its name, is coming to town.

The Mammoths from Austin, Texas, will perform at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Cruisers Bar, 715 Horizon Drive.

Playing a melting pot of blues, rock and psychedelia, the band’s members are lead singer David Kapsner, lead guitarist Michael Jekot, bass player Tyler Rush and percussionist Tim Durand.

“Each member of the band possesses a deep-rooted passion in music,” says the band’s Facebook page.

At age 13, Rush found his father’s bass guitar in the attic and the discovery launched Rush and the other members of The Mammoths on a “collective musical journey” that continued through their college years.

The band members each went separate ways across Texas after college, but reconnected later as a group in Austin. After playing in a South by Southwest jam session, they “never looked back — they knew they were destined to play music together and The Mammoths were born.”

“The Mammoths have refined their sound and found their sweet spot in blending elements of blues, rock and psychedelic into their songwriting,” the Facebook page says.

To learn about the band, go to themammothsmusic.com or the group’s Facebook page. Call Cruisers Bar at 314-2554 for show information.
