Music Scene: Those Folk and other area shows for June 9–15

Those Folk

Those Folk aren’t just any ‘ol folk, they are Lawrence Menard and Clare Quinn, an eclectic, world-traveling roots duo.

They will perform from 8–11 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Warehouse 25Sixty-Five, 2565 American Way, with folk music that is blues, bluegrass, soul and ragtime infused.

The Southern California-based couple “play a set of piano, guitar, harmonica and accordion tunes that will quell the most stressed out hearts,” says their bio at lawrenceandclare.com.

Described as “traveling ragtime buskers,” “vagabonds” and “troubadours,” Those Folk have “stripped back to the most grassroots elements possible, even recording their debut duo album on reel-to-reel tape machines,” the bio says.

Menard and Quinn met on the streets of Scotland. Menard’s Cajun influence and Californian upbringing, paired with Quinn’s mastery of Australian folk music, has blended to create a sound that “will lift your heart with a brand new sound, nourish your soul and leave you spellbound.”
