Three groups to make ‘Music Under the Stars’
The brats are sizzling and the late summer evening is calling you outdoors.
Grab a lawn chair or blanket and head to Lincoln Park for the 20th annual Wells Fargo Evening Under the Stars concert that will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.
The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Centennial Band and Grand Mesa Chorus Sweet Adelines for the official start to the symphony’s 35th season and Kirk Gustafson’s 25th season as music director.
Eight concerts are scheduled for the 2012–13 season, including an encore performance in September of Gustafson’s first concert as music director in November 1987, according to a news release.
Also planned is a fully-staged and orchestrated performance of “The Nutcracker” in December, an all-American concert featuring the symphony’s principal harpist Elise Helmke and the “Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles” in April, the release said.
Saturday’s free concert will feature the Grand Junction Symphony Guild’s annual Brats in the Park concession stand, which will open at 5 p.m. Come hungry and purchase bratwurst, sauerkraut, hot dogs, chips, soda and water. Enstrom Candies will sell ice cream. Proceeds from the Brats in the Park fundraiser benefit the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.
