Metal, hardcore and Christian: The three labels sum up For Today, a band from Sioux City, Iowa.

For Today performs at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Mesa Theater and Club, 538 Main St.

On its Facebook page, the band writes that since it was formed in 2005, it has played more than 800 shows in seven countries and released two albums on Facedown Records.

For Today describes “Portraits,” released in June 2009, as marking “the progression of the band with a more polished sound, while at the same time being even heavier and more intense than its 2008 release, ‘Ekklesia.’ “

A new album, “Breaker,” is set for release Aug. 31.

For Today is known for its “non-stop touring, high energy live performance, and unrelenting message. For Today will stop at nothing until the name of Christ is proclaimed to the entire world,” the band’s Facebook page reads.

Stray from the Path also will perform at the Mesa Theater show for all ages.

Tickets are $12. Call 241-1717 for information.
