Music Scene: Heavy Drags and the Utah County Swillers
Heavy Drags and the Utah County Swillers will swing into town to play country/punk/rockabilly starting at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Rocky Mountain Pub, 539 Colorado Ave.
Based in Springville, Utah — a sleepy little town in Utah County — the Utah County Swillers are anything but sleepy.
“This is not a band made up of healthy (or hygienic) people,” warns the bio on the band’s MySpace page.
The band’s members are: “Sweatin’ Willy, the lead guitarist and singer of the band, is a janitor at a local high school,” according to the page. “Derwood, the bass player, works at a brewery and has been irreversibly affected by excessive consumption of the product which he has dedicated his life to ... Uncle Todd, who plays mandolin and steel guitar and writes cowboy poetry, at least when he’s not whimpering in the fetal position ... (and) Young Buck, the drummer, well — he’s special.”
Despite their personal “issues,” the Utah County Swillers “have been able to draw heavily on the history and culture of Utah to create a unique sound with songs that deal with such diverse subjects as booze, pills, polygamy, more booze, more polygamy, and more pills,” the bio says.
Cover charge is $6.
