Popular folk singer John Gorka is celebrating the chart-topping success of his newest album, “Red Horse.”

The album features the work of artists Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson. Their songs have topped the folk music lists for the past several months as well as the No. 1-selling folk album on iTunes and Gorka was recently featured on National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition.”

The three artists began recording the basic tracks in Austin, Texas; Stillwater, Minn.; and New York City. They worked on harmonies while on the road and put the finishing touches on the album in St. Paul, Minn., last summer. It is a compilation of traditional folk and contemporary Americana.

Gorka will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Moss Performing Arts Center’s Recital Hall at Mesa State College, 1231 N. 12th St. Reserved seating is $25 and tickets are available at For information, call 243-8497 or go to
