Music veteran Robert Earl Keen performs at Avalon Theatre
Robert Earl Keen has spent decades as a successful music icon while dodging the music industry’s most obvious channel of exposure: mainstream radio.
Keen will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.
Twenty years ago, Keen released what would become his best-known song, “The Road Goes on Forever.” Keen is still playing strong and, in September, Keen released his 15th album, “The Rose Hotel,” to critical acclaim.
The Texas songwriter also is a master storyteller. His songs have been recorded by George Strait, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, the Dixie Chicks and the Highwaymen.
Keen has performed on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” and “The Today Show” and at numerous concert venues — about 130 shows per year, from Maine to Mexico — for more than 20 years.
