North Avenue’s Burger King robbed at gunpoint

A masked man armed with a handgun this evening forced four employees at a North Avenue restaurant inside a storage freezer while robbing the store.

The suspect, who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, was last seen headed west in the alley behind Burger King, 1730 North Ave., Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras said. Police were called around 8 p.m.

There were no injuries and no customers were inside the Burger King at the time of the robbery.

A police dog briefly tracked the suspect, but ultimately lost the trail, Porras said.

Porras said the black-male suspect was described as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, stonewashed jeans, tan boots and a red mask covering most of his face. He also had a red and black gym bag.

Anybody with information was asked to call dispatch at 242-6707, or Mesa County Crime Stoppers, 241-STOP.
