Noted choreographer to direct CMU tap, jazz show

Award-winning choreographer Dave Massey will direct Colorado Mesa University students in a large tap number and contemporary jazz piece during three performances of the Spring Into Dance concert.

“Massey holds his MFA in Dance from UC Irvine and has performed in all venues of dance, including dance companies, television, stage, film and nightclub acts, working with eminent Hollywood celebrities,” according to a news release.

Massey is the winner of the 2004 gold award for choreography from the Jazz Dance World Congress, and has won a number of awards nationally and internationally. Earlier this month, Massey auditioned dancers for his pieces and has rehearsed intensively with the chosen casts, the release said.

The dance concert also will feature student and faculty choreographers, as well as guest choreographer Julie Sinnott of the Beyond Boundaries Dance Collective.

The concerts will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 20–21 and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Robinson Theatre in the university’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for students.
