OA: Local musician invited to compete in Telluride
Local musician David Faricy is singing the blues — but for a good reason.
He was selected to compete in the Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition during the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Sept. 12–14.
Saturday, Sept. 13, tickets to Blues and Brews are sold out and a limited number of three-day passes are available, according to the festival’s Web site (http://www.tellurideblues. com) earlier this week.
Friday headliners include John Hiatt and Joan Osborne and the Sunday headliner is Etta James & The Roots Band. Tickets cost $55 each day.
The Grand Tasting on Saturday boasts 150 beers from 53 microbreweries.
Persistence has paid off for Faricy, as this was the fourth year he entered the blues competition.
Faricy was one of the top six entries, he said, and will perform for judges in Telluride on Saturday, the winner will play on the festival main stage Saturday night.
“See, that’s pretty sweet,” Faricy said. “And I’m pretty excited about it.”
Faricy is a local Realtor and performs his mixture of blues, folk and country songs Saturday nights at Cavett House Grille & Pub, 359 Colorado Ave. The guitarist is taking a break to perform at the festival, but will be back on the restaurant’s stage Sept. 27.
