OA: Suggestions from Samantha November 28, 2008
Even I thought I was crazy dancing around in circles to Santogold’s new self–titled CD.
It’s that good.
It’s crazy good.
Santi White aka Santogold, a Brooklyn singer/songwriter, has been the buzz on music blogs since parts of her album leaked and Rolling Stone magazine called her an Artist to Watch in 2007.
The magazine describes her as “philly punk embraces New Wave art rock” or M.I.A. plus Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah plus the ’80s.
Pitchfork called her album, “some of the year’s freshest pop” (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com).
It deserves the hype.
I like “Santogold” because I can picture DJs here and in France, Africa and Australia getting requests for it. Lately, I’ve been particularly drawn to music that has no boundaries.
I’ve toyed with the idea of buying her CD for a while. I decided I couldn’t wait for Santa to put it in my stocking, and neither should you.
My favorite song is “LES Artistes.”
