Oft-troubled nightclub could reopen under new name Dec. 1

The Rum Bay nightclub, at the intersection of North Avenue and the Interstate 70 Business Loop, could be open under a new name before 2009.

Patrizia Spencer, 48, of Clifton, has applied to Mesa County for the transfer of the Rum Bay liquor license. According to the application, Spencer intends to name the club the Riviera and lists Dec. 1 as the first date of anticipated sales.

Spencer, who owns a business at 3225 Interstate 70 Business Loop, formed a limited liability corporation, Spencer Trevino, LLC, in late October with Robert Trevino Padron to operate the club. Spencer’s son Pablo

Spencer is also listed on the articles of organization, on file with the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office.

Spencer, who declined to comment for this article, began leasing the property for $5,000 a month from RWN Properties, LLC, Oct. 20. The club is owned by Robert Nunnery.

Rum Bay’s former liquor license holders, Bill Logsdon and Greg Rohlman, had to close the bar late last month after a female strip and oil wrestling troupe, “Hollywood Knockouts,” visited and a number of people were caught on camera behaving inappropriately with female members of the troupe.

Prior to that incident, Rum Bay had been issued numerous alcohol violations and was the site of several fights and increased police activity. Logsdon and Rohlman held the liquor license for Rum Bay for less than a year before the county moved to revoke the license.

If Spencer passes a criminal background check, the Mesa County Commission could approve her request to open the establishment prior to the state Department of Revenue’s liquor enforcement division approving the license transfer into her name, said Kathy Crane, Mesa County liquor license clerk.
