One Book, One Mesa County arranging a variety of events

Movies, book discussions and other events have been scheduled for the 2010 One Book, One Mesa County community reading program.
This year’s selection is “The Geography of Bliss” by Eric Weiner.
Here are some details of upcoming events related to the book and author.
View “The Overture,” a film about Thailand’s cultural roots and its future. The film, to be shown at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, in the Central Library programing room, is part of a three-week film series Movies Around the World with movies from a country in the book.
With photos and other insights, Herb Bacon will talk about travel experiences in some of the countries — Iceland, Bhutan, Thailand — in “The Geography of Bliss.” The program is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the Central Library programming room.
Several Mesa County residents will share how they have discovered and pursued happiness in a program titled “The Quest for Bliss” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Central Library programming room. Those participants include: Laurena Mayne Davis, The Daily Sentinel’s managing editor and Riveter guitarist; Steve Cyphers, Holy Family Catholic School teacher and former ESPN reporter; and Rob Buckley, founder of Healing Himalayas.

A book discussion will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Clifton Branch.
Lynn Albers (mantra yoga and pranayama) and Sister Caroline Conway (tai chi) will each lead a 45-minute meditation session. The event will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Central Library programming room.
A book discussion set for Saturday, Feb. 13, will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Palisade Branch and 11 a.m. at the Fruita Branch.
A book discussion will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Central Library programming room.
A book discussion will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Collbran Branch.
A book discussion will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Orchard Mesa Branch.
A book discussion will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Central Library programming room.
Finally, “The Geography of Bliss” author Eric Weiner will visit Grand Junction. Get your copy of the book signed between 1–2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Central Library programming room. At 7 p.m. that Saturday, Weiner will speak at Avalon Theatre. His presentation will be followed by a Q&A and book-signing. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the program.
