Outdoor concerts offer variety

Get outside and enjoy a late summer concert — or two — featuring your choice of summer fun rock ‘n’ roll or big band, Americana and folk.

■ Grand Junction Rockestra will present “Summer Nights, Summer Fun” at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in the Colorado Mesa University Quad, between the University Center and the Academic Classroom Building.

Hits from the 1970s through the ‘90s and today will be performed, featuring the theme of summer nights and fun.

Admission is free. Take a chair or blanket. Beer and wine will be available for purchase from the patio overlooking the quad area.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the songs on the concert play list: “Some Nights” by Fun; “Walkin’ on Sunshine,”  Katrina & the Waves; “Rockin’ into the Night,” .38 Special; “Hard Day’s Night,” Beatles; “December 1963, Oh What a Night,” Four Seasons; “Nights in White Satin,” Moody Blues; “Summer Nights” from “Grease”; “The Boys of Summer,” Don Henley; “Summer of ‘69,” Bryan Adams; “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” Cyndi Lauper; “You Shook Me All Night Long,” AC/DC; and many more.

■ The Wells Fargo’s Evening Under the Stars, a free evening of music featuring The Grand Junction Centennial Band, King’n Trio and Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, will be Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lincoln Park.

The Grand Junction Symphony Guild’s Brats in the Park and the Instrument Petting Zoo will begin at 5 p.m. The Grand Junction Centennial Band will perform at 6:30 p.m. followed by King’n Trio, and the Grand Junction Symphony will play Americana and cowboy selections beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Take a chair or blanket.
