Pair of pianists to accompany symphony at March 2 performance

Two pianists and three French composers will highlight the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming concert.

“Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Grand Junction High School auditorium, 1400 N. Fifth St.

The concert will feature guest pianists Andrea Arese-Elias and Gisela Flanigan performing Francis Poulenc’s “Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos.”

Arese-Elias received a bachelor of music degree in her home country of Argentina before completing master and doctoral degrees in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.

She has performed as a solo and chamber musician in Argentina, Mexico, El Salvador, Japan, Bulgaria and the United States. Arese-Elias and her husband, violinist Carlos Elias, made their New York debut in 2002 at Carnegie Hall.

She is a founding member of the Mesa State College Piano Trio Las Americas.

Flanigan received a master and bachelor degree in music from the University of Miami and completed her doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance at the University of North Texas.

She has taught music at Drake University and Grinnel College and presented master classes in North and South America.

She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South American and the United States.

Flanigan established the Bright Minds Music Studio in Grand Junction and is a member of Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture.

The symphony also will perform Faur&233;‘s “Pavane” and Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie fantastique.”

Tickets are $15, $20 and $25. Student tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased at the symphony office, 225 N. Fifth St., Suite 120, online at or by phone at 243-6787.
