Palisade, Fruita holiday festivities to be in full swing
The communities of Palisade and Fruita will light the Christmas candle at both ends of the valley this weekend with holiday celebrations.
■ “Christmas Future” is the theme of the Fruita Hometown Christmas Parade of Lights and Festivities with events on Saturday, Dec. 8, at several locations in Fruita.
Photos with Santa will be taken from 1–4 p.m. at Cavalcade, 401 E. Aspen Ave. A Mitten Tree and canned food drive, hosted by Girl Scouts of Colorado, will be at 2:30 p.m. in Civic Center Park.
The Christmas cantata “Silent Night, Holy Night” will be presented at 4 p.m. at Fruita United Methodist Church, 405 E. Aspen Ave.
The parade of lights will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Aspen and Elm, winding around Circle Park, up Mesa to Pabor, and ending at Cherry.
Two chili suppers will be offered Saturday. The first, hosted by Fruita Lioness, is from 3–7 p.m. at the Fruita Community Center. The second, which will begin after the parade, will be at the Sacred Heart Parish.

■ Palisade’s Olde Fashioned Christmas will begin Friday, Dec. 7, in downtown Palisade with activities and the lighting of the Christmas tree.
There will be hot chocolate and cookies from 4:30–6 p.m.; the Father Christmas procession from 4:45–5:30 p.m.; a Christmas tree lighting from 4:45–5:30 p.m.; Teens with Talent at 5 p.m.; and storytelling from 6–7 p.m. at the Palisade Methodist Church.
If sugar plums aren’t dancing in your head by then, make plans to head to some or all of the events set for Saturday at various venues in Palisade.
The Olde Town Marketplace, featuring vendors, entertainment and more, will take will open at 11 a.m. in downtown Palisade. The Gingerbread House Contest and Showcase will be from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Palisade Community Building. Visit the Palisade Methodist Church at 1 p.m. and listen to a Christmas cantata. A chili cook off is planned for 2:30–5:30 p.m. at the Palisade Fire Department.
A parade of lights will conclude the festive day and will begin at 6 p.m. in downtown Palisade.
