Palisade set to host weekend-long celebration

The Palisade Olde Fashioned Christmas, brimming with holiday spirit, entertainment and events, is set for Friday through Sunday, Dec. 9–11, in downtown Palisade.

FRIDAY, DEC. 9

The Father Christmas procession with music from the Taylor Elementary School Serenaders and a tree lighting celebration will be from 4:45–5:30 p.m.

Rotary will serve hot cider and hot chocolate from 4:30–6 p.m. and Mumzel’s will have cookies and candy canes.

At Mesa County Libraries’ Palisade Branch, “Teens with Talent” will start at 5 p.m. and storytelling with Ruth Mary Allison will be from 6–7 p.m.

SATURDAY, DEC. 10

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Olde Town Marketplace will be open downtown. There will be historic walking tours and entertainment plus a toy run and show-and-shine car show.

Don’t miss the architectural wonders at the Gingerbread House Contest and Showcase from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Palisade Community Building. For those wanting to participate in the contest, check-in is from 8–10 a.m., and information and entry forms are available at http://www.palisadecoc.com. Winners will be announced at noon.

Santa Claus will be in downtown Palisade from noon to 4 p.m.

Warm up your tummy at the Soup Challenge from 1–3 p.m., featuring six contestants. Cost is $3 to try all the soups and vote for your favorite.

And if you need more soup, the Fireman’s Chili Cook Off is from 2:30–5:30 p.m. and the Altrusa Soup Kitchen will go from 4–6 p.m. at Slice O Life Bakery.

All this leads up to “A Storybook Christmas”-themed Christmas parade, starting at 5:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, DEC. 11

This year, the annual Palisade Chamber Christmas Tea and Christmas Boutique will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the Community Center.

The Sweet Adeline’s quartet “Cover Charge” will provide holiday music. Cost is $10 per person and tickets can be purchased by phone, 464-7458.

The boutique will be open to shoppers from 2–4 p.m. downstairs at the Community Center.

Also on Sunday, the Palisade Historical Society will give historic walking tours in downtown Palisade.
