Palisade’s Olde Fashioned Christmas begins weekend
There’s something to be said about a community Christmas celebration at which neighbors greet one another, wishing good cheer and the best of the season.
Here are some community Christmas celebrations planned this weekend:
■ Palisade’s Olde Fashioned Christmas will begin with a tree lighting and caroling by the Taylor Elementary Serenaders at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2. Altrusa’s annual Cup of Warmth at Slice of Life Bakery also will take place at 5 p.m. followed by the Parade of Lights at 6 p.m.
The celebration will continue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, with vendors and music, a soup challenge in the Marketplace and a book sale and storytelling at the library. The Palisade Historical Society will conduct historical walking tours, and the gingerbread competition can be found at the Palisade Community Center. Go to palisadecoc.com for a schedule of events.
■ The Hometown Holiday Event in Rifle will feature plenty of family fun beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.
Rudolph’s Amazing Race will go from 5–7 p.m., Santa will be at the Ute Theatre from 5–7 p.m., the Jingle Bell Hop dance is from 7–9 p.m., and the ugly sweater contest and beer and wine tent, are happening from 7–10 p.m.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, plan to attend the craft fair or drop by the Ute Theater from 1–5 p.m. to see Santa. Santa’s Little Helpers Treasure Hunt will go from 1–5 p.m. and a living nativity can be seen from 5–6 p.m. on the walking path. A tree lighting will be at 5:30 p.m. in Centennial Park and will be followed by a parade of lights at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, Dec. 4, the Ute Theater will host the Community Choir Concert from 3–5 p.m.

■ Paonia Holiday Festivities will run from Friday through Sunday, Dec. 2–4. Among the many activities going on is the Paonia Holiday Art Fair from 3–8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts, Curtis Hall.
The Holiday Glow Light Celebration will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Poulos Park with the lighting of the park’s holiday lights.
Take the kids to the Children’s Winter Faire open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at North Fork School of Integrated Studies-Paonia Elementary School for family activities including crafts, candle dipping, cookies and more.
There will be events at participating businesses throughout the weekend in Paonia.
