UPDATE: Police arrest suspect in shooting, assault
Police this afternoon arrested a man believed to have been involved in a shooting and assault that sent four people to the hospital earlier today.
Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras said officers responded to 476 Glen Road around 11 a.m. on a report of a shooting. One person at the home sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital along with three others who suffered injuries inflicted with a different weapon. Porras said she didn’t know the kind of a weapon used in the assault but said none of the four people appeared to have life-threatening injuries.
Officers then developed information that a man involved in the shooting may be at a home at 2005 Elm Ave., Porras said. Several people were removed from the home and a SWAT team entered the home around 2 p.m. Minutes later, an officer came out of the house carrying a young baby.
Around 3:15 p.m. officers received a tip that the suspect was on foot in the area of 28 Road and North Avenue. Police took him into custody there, Porras said.
Porras said police were investigating whether other people were involved in the shooting and assault. Officers also stopped a vehicle in the area of 18th Street and Elm that may have been associated with the incident on Glen Road.
