Police kill bear that was rummaging through home

COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado Springs police officer shot and killed a black bear after it wandered into a kitchen in the southwestern part of the city.

The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/15SNj9W ) the residents sought safety in another part of the house after they encountered the bear at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The bear was shot twice with a shotgun after the officer who found the animal in the backyard said it made an aggressive movement. The bear ran a short distance before it collapsed and died.

The home was slightly damaged, but the residents were not harmed.
