Powderhorn Resort to reopen for weekend

Don’t put away those skis and boards, the season isn’t over.

Powderhorn Mountain Resort announced Wednesday it will reopen for the weekend, joining the list of Colorado resorts taking one last plunge into the 2012-2013 ski season.

Powderhorn will open Lift One (Take Four) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The West End lift will not be open, Powderhorn General Manager Daren Cole said.

Tickets will be $30 for adults and $25 for youth and pre-teens. Children under 6 years ski free. Season passes from 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 will be valid.

“It’s pretty awesome up here,” Cole said Wednesday afternoon. “We now have a 75-inch base, which is pretty amazing because we ‘closed’ with a 54-inch base.”

Cole said food and beverage service will be available on the Sunset Deck and the rental shop and retail store will be open.

The Ski and Ride education center will not be open.

This is the final week for the Powderhorn “Jump Into Spring” 2013-2014 pre-season pass sales, and Cole said anyone purchasing a 2013-2014 season pass this weekend also will receive a $25 resort credit.

“This reopening really is unique and unprecedented,” Cole said. “It’s our ‘thank you’ to the community for such a great ski season.”

Other resorts that have announced they will open for the weekend include Copper Mountain, Vail and Breckenridge.

Aspen Highlands previously was scheduled to close Sunday but this week announced it will reopen April 27-28.
