RSSPublic defender appointed for Jensen
24-year-old Heather Lynn Jensen comes into Mesa County District Judge Valerie Robison’s courtroom in the Mesa County Justice Center Thursday morning for a brief hearing in the case of the Palisade mother accused in the deaths of her two young sons.
Mesa County District Judge Valerie Robison this morning appointed the Colorado State Public Defender’s office to represent accused Palisade mother Heather Jensen, while allowing the withdrawal of Jensen’s private attorney from the case.
Jensen, 24, who appeared this morning in a brief hearing, offered no reason in a written request to Robison earlier this week why she wanted attorney Ed Nugent off the case.
Nugent earlier this month filed two motions, a request to seal the public court file and a bid to impose a gag order on prosecutors and police, which were both rejected by the judge.
Jensen was charged Feb. 7 with two counts of child abuse resulting in death, two counts of criminally negligent homicide and one count of false reporting to authorities, in connection with the deaths of her sons, William, 2, and Tyler, 4. The boys died as a result of overheating in their mother’s Toyota 4Runner on the night of Nov. 27 on Grand Mesa. William died that same night while Tyler was removed from life support on Dec. 3.
Jensen, who is being held at the Mesa County Jail on $150,000 bond, is slated to return to court March 21.
