Quick Picks: Empty bowls, fundraiser

Anthony Keeler, 10, evaluates all the bowls he could pick for the Grand Valley Catholic Outreach fundraiser today. Forty-four potters made 1,000 bowls and there were 52 different kinds of soup available for the 19th annual event.

Fill up

Students and instructors at The Arts Center have been busy creating hundreds of handmade bowls, and those bowls are finally ready to be filled.

Empty Bowls, an annual fundraiser for Grand Valley Catholic Outreach’s Soup Kitchen, will go from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Soup Kitchen, 245 S. First St.

Pick out your bowl, get it filled with soup that you eat while enjoying music played by local musicians. Then there’s dessert, before you take your bowl home as a reminder of the hungry people the Soup Kitchen serves.

Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased at Grand Valley Catholic Outreach and City Market stores. Call 241-3658 for information.

Help out

Earlier this year, Lee Bowerman’s art greeted all who cast an eye toward Middle Liquors in Fruita and the mural of a western town on an exterior wall.

But Bowerman’s murals are a common sight in the Grand Valley and beyond if you know where to look. It was Bowerman’s paint brush behind the mural on the side of The Art Depot and several murals in downtown Delta.

Unfortunately, Bowerman recently had a stroke and fundraising efforts are being made to help the artist and his wife with their medical expenses.

A Pizza Feed and Live Auction will go from 3–6 p.m. Saturday at KAFM Radio, 1310 Ute Ave. There is a suggested donation of $12 for the meal.

A Go-Fund-Me account also has been set up for the Bowermans at gofundme.com/support-lee-and-carol-bowerman.
