Quick Picks: ‘Expressions’ dance recital; Big Sam’s Funky Nation; Colorado West Pride Festival

With more than 150 dancers, Inspire Dance Company will present its spring dance recital titled “Expressions.”
The recital featuring both child and adult dancers will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.
Advance tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for children and seniors, and can be purchased by calling 241-0041. Tickets purchased at the door will be an additional $3 each.
The choreographed dances will be in a variety of styles and “will take you through a journey of emotion, expression and inspiration!” according to a news release.

The second act in the 2017 Colorado Riverfront Concert Series rolls into the Grand Valley in the form of Big Sam’s Funky Nation.
You’ll hear funk, rock ‘n’ roll, hip-hop and jazz from New Orleans all down by the banks of the Colorado River in the James M. Robb-Colorado State Park, Fruita Section.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
Take a picnic dinner or purchase food there. Beer and wine will be available to purchase.
Everyone age 5 and older will need tickets, which are free with a service fee and can be found at City Market stores and TicketsWest.com.

Thursday through Sunday, June 8–11
The annual Colorado West Pride Festival begins with a Theater Night at 8 p.m. Thursday at Mesa Theater, 538 Main St.
But there is so much more coming up, including a Pub Crawl on June 9, a Rainbow Party on June 10, festival from June 10–11 and a parade and Drag Queen Karaoke after party on June 11.
But back to the Theater Night. Tickets cost $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show.
