Band goes on

Palisade High School junior Josh Anders is doing his part to help raise funds for area high school band departments through the Jazz for Education concerts at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Roper Music Ballroom, 136 N. Fifth St., and again at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Grand Junction High School, 1400 N. Fifth St.

Five area bands will perform and donations will be accepted at the door.

Get in step

Be inspired by the rhythm, movement and beauty of dance with La Puerta Dance Studio’s 2014 Spring Showcase featuring more than 10 performances in ballroom, Latin or swing styles by students and instructors.

The showcase will be from 7–10 p.m. at the studio, 523 1/2 Main St., Suite 1.

Advanced tickets cost $15 and are available by calling 712-2552 or stopping by the studio. Tickets cost $18 at the door.

There will be wine from Grande River Vineyards and open dancing.

Thursday, May 15

Fresh art

The ninth annual Super Rad High School Art Show opens to the public during an Opening Gala from 7–9 p.m. at Mesa Mall’s Clock Court.

The gala will include the opening of the exhibit and an awards ceremony.

The Super Rad show features the work of area high school students vying for trophies in several categories including a Best in Show and People’s Choice award.

The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through May 20.
