Sing for spring

Join the Western Colorado Chorale for an evening of song during its two 7:30 p.m. “Spring Celebration: The Rio Grande and Easter” concerts in the Recital Hall in The Moss Performing Arts Center at Colorado Mesa University, 1231 N. 12th St.

The overall theme is spring and Easter, featuring the chorale, as well as pianist Kathryn Mientka, saxophone player Cody Krieger, and Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra Executive Director and operatic baritone Kelly Anderson.

Among the pieces audiences will hear at “Spring Celebration: The Rio Grande and Easter” are English composer Constant Lambert’s “The Rio Grande,” Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Rest” and “Five Mystical Songs,” Jeffery Ames’ “In Remembrance,” and Dominick Argento’s “Gloria.”

Tickets to the show cost $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for students either at the door or at gjsymphony.org.

Wednesday, March 12

Big band

Today is the deadline to reserve your dinner choice for the Western Colorado Jazz Orchestra’s Big Band Era Dinner/Dance from 6:30–10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Lincoln Park Barn.

Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased through the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra at 243-6787, gjsymphony.org or at its office, 414 Main St.

Famous Dave’s is catering the meal, and people have until today to reserve their dinner choice.

The night begins with dinner and music from the Grand River Dixieland Band before giving way to dancing to music performed by the Western Colorado Jazz Orchestra from 7:30–10:30 p.m.

A portion of event proceeds will benefit a local veteran’s project.
