More than 15 marching bands from Colorado, Utah and New Mexico will compete in the 35th annual Colorado West Marching Band Festival. The event begins with a parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Grand Junction. The festival then moves to Stocker Stadium for the field show portion of the competition beginning at 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony at 5 p.m.

The University of Northern Colorado’s marching band performs at 4:45 p.m. as scores are processed.

Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students for the stadium field shows. The parade is free.

Saturday, Oct. 5
Hoist a stein

Celebrate German culture at the 32nd Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the area of Sixth Street and Colorado Avenue.

The event includes vendors selling a variety of German food and drink and live music with the German music band Alpine Echo. The Bookcliff Chorus will sing The Beer Barrel Polka at noon.

The German American Club will have a garage sale to support high school exchange programs, and registration for the popular Weinerdog Races is 11 a.m. with the race at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 10
In tribute
Fox TV show “Glee” is scheduled to air on this day its tribute episode to Cory Montieth, the actor found dead in July in his hotel room.

Montieth played popular character Finn Hudson on the show, and producers have talked about how to address Montieth’s death on the show. This is the third episode of the fifth season.
