Redlands Blockbuster closing, no longer offering movie rentals

The Blockbuster on the Redlands will be closing in April. The store has stopped offering movie rentals, and some shelves are already empty.

One of three Blockbuster stores in Grand Junction is planning to close April 10 and has ceased renting movies.

The Blockbuster at 2500 Broadway, Suite H, is now only selling the DVDs it once rented. Some shelves are already empty and, like all fixtures in the store, are for sale as well.

An e-mail to Blockbuster corporate headquarters asking why the store was closing went unanswered Monday. Employees are not allowed to comment on the matter per corporate policy.

Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy Sept. 23 and announced Feb. 21 it plans to sell the company.

A news release on the company’s website said “a majority” of Blockbuster stores and kiosks will run as usual while the company attempts a sale.

Grand Junction also has Blockbuster store locations at 1133 Patterson Road, No. 12, and 2901 F Road, plus kiosk locations at three local Safeway stores.
