Rockestra season set to begin Saturday
If you like the B-52’s, The Doobie Brothers or Tom Petty then it’s time to get rocked with GJ Rockestra.
Rockestra starts its 2012 season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Robinson Theatre in Colorado Mesa University’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.
Rockestra is “a professional Rock and Roll Orchestra performing classic rock and roll, with a symphonic twist,” according to the group’s Facebook page.
Rockestra also is an extension of and complementary group to the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and they share a mission to enrich and engage the community through live symphonic music.
But don’t expect Mozart. The set list for Saturday will include “We Will Rock You” by Queen, “Free Fallin’ ” by Tom Petty, “Radar Love” by Golden Earring, “Love Shack” by the B-52’s, “Dude Looks Like a Lady” by Aerosmith, “Shadows of the Night” by Pat Benatar, “Foreplay/Longtime” by Boston and “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams, according to http://www.gjsymphony.org/concerts-1/rockestra_seasontickets.
There will be beer by the Ale House, wine by Grande River Vineyard and T-shirts for sale.
Other Rockestra concert dates to mark on your calendar are 7:30 p.m. May 19, Robinson Theatre; 8 p.m. Aug. 18, CMU Quad outdoors; and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20, CMU University Center Ballroom.
Individual tickets to Saturday’s concert cost $20 or $25 depending on your preferred seating area in Robinson Theatre. Season tickets are $80 or $90.
Concerts in August and October will be sold as general admission with season ticket holders having a reserved area near the stage. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.gjsymphony.org.
