Screening set for documentary film featuring Grand Junction couple

The documentary footage in Grand Junction and Uganda has been shot, and now filmmakers need local help in putting all the pieces together.

The rough-cut version of “Moving On” will be shown at 7 p.m. July 28, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.

The feature-length documentary shows Grand Junction couple Dave and Morgan Hansow on their journey toward adoption of their young Ugandan daughter, Jadyn. Simultaneously, the documentary chronicles the lives of several men and women from the African nation, who, for whatever reason, have decided to see the positive side of life in dire circumstances.

Their message of hope and moving on is the point of the documentary, Dave Hansow said.

The plan is to send the 84-minute documentary to dozens of film festivals this fall. In turn, the Hansows hope millions see the message of hope through exposure at those festivals.

Before the film is completed, however, filmmakers want locals to watch it and critique it to get a fresh, unbiased opinion of the rough-cut version before the final cut is completed.

“Grand Junction, we are needing your help in editing this film,” Hansow said. “Half this film was shot here, so Grand Junction has a vested interest.”

Feedback forms will be handed out at the screening. Those who turn in completed forms will receive a free SUUBI necklace.

The SUUBI necklaces are handmade in Uganda and sold through Light Gives Heat, the nonprofit organization the Hansows set up in the U.S. to give Ugandan women the chance to work to support their families.

Tickets to the screening are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. All proceeds from ticket sales will help complete the film.

Advanced tickets are for sale at the Light Gives Heat store, 2507 Weslo Ave., or at the Light Gives Heat booth at the American National Bank Downtown Farmers Market.
