Sound check, Dreamboat

DREAMBOAT FORMED IN November plays its next show on Saturday, Jan. 14, at The Rockslide Restaurant and Brewery, 401 Main St. The band members are, from left, Trevor Adam, Billy Pogany and David Goe.

When asked to describe Dreamboat’s sound, lead singer and guitarist Billy Pogany looked to bandmate and drummer Trevor Adams and asked, “Folk, dream pop?”

Adams smiled and said that “no matter what word we use,” the best way to get to know the new band is to hear its music.

Pogany, Adams and bass player David Goe formed the band in November and they play mostly original tunes written by Pogany.

“This band is really a vehicle for Billy’s song writing,” Adams said.

The band’s sound and Pogany’s tunes most closely resemble 1960s music created by bands such as The Beatles. The band members also like The Kinks and Neil Young.

Consequently, they decided to call themselves Dreamboat as an homage to the romantic, dreamy sound of many of their favorite tunes.

Adams and Pogany joked that Dreamboat has nothing to do with the band member’s opinions of their physical appearance.

So far, Dreamboat has played one formal show.

“With stripped down three-instrument rock, you really put yourself out there,” Goe said.

Adams and Pogany have been played in a number of local bands, but this is Goe’s first band that isn’t “a bunch of friends playing together in a garage.”

Dreamboat’s next show will be at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at The Rockslide Restaurant and Brewery, 401 Main St.
