Snow prevents Fruita, Central from making it to tournament
The Fruita Monument and Central high school boys basketball teams were scheduled to play Wednesday in the Hinkley Challenge in Aurora, but the teams had to turn around and come back home because of the school district travel policy.
The policy forbids any of the school district’s clubs, sports or organizations from traveling through the mountains when the chain law is in effect.
Fruita and Central made it to Vail about 9:30 a.m. when the chain law went into effect. The Wildcats returned to school and practiced Wednesday afternoon, coach Dave Fox said.
Both teams will attempt to travel today if the chain law is lifted. Neither team had to forfeit their scheduled Wednesday game.
