Locals fare well in Mountain States Cup

Five cycling team members finished in the top three in their categories for the season in the Mountain States Cup Series Championship this year.

Drake Urigen of Fruita took first place in the Category 1 age 15-18 class, Mike Driver of Fruita won the Category 1 age 40-49 division and Justin Hemmer of Grand Junction finished first in the Category 2 age 19-29 division.

Teammates Paul Johnson of Grand Junction took second in the Category 2, 19-29 division and Travis Chapman of Grand Junction was third in the same category and age division.

The Mountain States Cup had 18 races, including the Rabbit Valley Rally, this season.

College Rugby

Mesa women will play Sunday

The Mesa State College women’s rugby team is hosting its first home match on Sunday at Dixson Field.

The Mavericks are playing the University of Northern Colorado with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
