As the oldest continuously running American superhero — he first appeared in Action Comics No. 1 in 1938 with a June cover date — Superman has fought evil in comic books, newspaper comic strips, radio serials, TV programs, on Broadway, in video games and on movie screens for 75 years.

Born from the minds of Ohio high schoolers in the 1930s, when America needed a superhero, Superman has become one of the most identifiable and iconic superheroes of all time.

But how well do you know Superman?

We have put together this Super Quiz with the help of local Superman super fan Kyle Hagerman, 33.

Hagerman, a fifth-grade teacher at Rocky Mountain Elementary School, has adored Superman since he was 2. Hagerman’s fanaticism led him to name his current vehicle Krypto 2.0 — his first vehicle, a Chevrolet Beretta, was named Krypto the Supercar — purchase a wedding band designed like Superman’s trademark shield and name his son Clark Kent Hagerman.

So, yeah, he’s qualified to help put together a quiz.

“As a teacher, I use Superman in my classroom because of everything he stands for,” Hagerman said. “He’s how I connect to my students. It works.”

Superman fans young and old will have the chance to see the newest Superman film, “Man of Steel” on Friday, June 14, at Regal Cinemas 14, 648 Market St.

An national advanced screening is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, exclusively for those who purchase special passes at participating Wal-Mart stores.

Both Grand Junction Wal-Mart locations are taking part in the promotion.

Hagerman bought his 3-D ticket weeks ago.

“I’ve seen like seven trailers” for the new movie, Hagerman said. “I think it looks amazing.”
