Good citizens honored

The Mount Garfield Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will honor students as DAR Good Citizens at a 1 p.m. ceremony Saturday at the Whitman Education Center, 248 S. Fourth St.

The students are Lindsey Amber Whitesides, Fruita Monument High School; Jessica Deters, Grand Junction High School; Quincey Dee Thacker, Rangely High School; Cohen Turner, Palisade High School; and Jillana Marie Alderman, De Beque Undivided High School.

The winner of a scholarship competition, whose entry advances to a statewide contest, will be announced at the event.

9 scholarships available

 

San Miguel Power Association Inc. is offering scholarships to this year’s high school graduating class.

The co-op awards nine scholarships, totaling $14,000, to graduating seniors. Applicants must attend school within the service territory, be a dependent of a co-op member, be on schedule to graduate in 2013, and plan to attend a secondary education institution.

A $2,000 scholarship is awarded to one graduating senior from six high schools.  A $500 Tri-State Scholarship goes to two graduating seniors. A $1,000 Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship goes to one graduating senior.
