There’s a race for all in weekend bike festival

World champions, weekend warriors and the youngest of mountain bikers will celebrate the popular sport together during the Grand Junction Off-Road endurance mountain bike event from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.

Grab your helmet, fill you tires with air, and get ready to ride.

Along with the professional races on Sunday, there will be amateur events and fun rides throughout the weekend as well as musical entertainment and a beer garden on Friday and Saturday in downtown Grand Junction.

Amateurs can register for races at the Epic Rides tents at the expo on Main Street, from Third to Fifth streets. The Rockslide Brewery Beer Garden will be open from 5–8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday near the stage at Fourth and Main streets.

Expo hours will go from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Nonprofit organizations, businesses and bike companies and other groups will have tents at the expo.

A Clunker Crit will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, and the pro women and men’s criteriums will follow. The Shimano Youth Series Kids ride will be at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

On Saturday, music will start at 10 a.m. Jack + Jill will perform beginning at noon Saturday, followed by The Williams Brothers Band at 2 p.m. Alternative rock band Cracker will perform at 6 p.m.

Cracker achieved success in 1993 with its gold-album “Kerosene Hat.” Hits such as “Low,” “Get Off This,” and “Teen Angst” helped the band quickly become one of the most recognized alternative rock bands of the early ‘90s.

Those attending the free concert are asked to take two cans of food to donate to the Community Food Bank of Grand Junction.
