Treat mom to a concert

Winners of Symphony in the Valley’s 2010 Young Artists Concerto Competition will perform as guests at the 17th annual Mother’s Day Concerts presented by the symphony at two venues.

Concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the Rifle High School auditorium and at 4 p.m. Sunday,  May 9, at Glenwood Spring High School.

Pianist Ko-Nung Huang, a graduate student in piano studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey, will perform the first movement of Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor.” Huang won in the symphony’s senior division for musicians ages 19–30.

Nelly Weiser, a soprano and a junior at Aspen High School, will sing Puccini’s aria “O mi Babbino Caro.” Weiser won the symphony’s junior division for musicians ages 6–18.

During the concert, Symphony in the Valley will perform additional pieces from Handel, Holsinger and Britten.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 for children ages 3–18, or $30 for families. Tickets are available at the door. Music students are admitted free. For information, call 945-4490 or go to
