Utah man charged with murder while out on bail

VERNAL, Utah — A Fort Duchesne man has been charged with murdering a friend while out on bail in a separate rape case.

Jesse Saenz was charged Thursday in 8th District Court with murder and theft in the shooting death of 22-year-old Elvis Olsen of Roosevelt near Fort Duchesne.

According to Uintah County sheriff’s investigators, the 23-year-old Saenz had been out on bail pending a July trial in the rape case when the shooting occurred at the home of Saenz’s grandfather.

Olsen was found dead on April 21 outside the home, and his car was gone.

Investigators say Saenz was arrested after he was later found driving Olsen’s car in Arizona. Saenz waived extradition and was booked into the Uintah County Jail, where he remains without bail.

Authorities believe Saenz and Olsen, a convicted sex offender, became friends while they were in the jail at the same time.
