Variety of dance styles to be showcased at MSC

Dancer and choreographer Rachael Harding will offer a jazz master class on Saturday, Jan. 15, in connection with The Aspen Dance Connection’s showcase performances Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14-15, at Mesa State College.

Modern, jazz, hip-hop and break dancing — put them all in a blender and push mix.

What you’ll get is “Portals,” The Aspen Dance Connection’s 33rd annual statewide juried showcase at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14–15, at Moss Performing Arts Center, at Mesa State College, 1231 N. 12th St.

Dancers and choreographers from Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins and Grand Junction will present a blend of dances, skills, styles and backgrounds drawn from years of cumulative experience.

Tickets are $20 for adults, and $10 for students and can be purchased at the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra office in the Alpine Bank building, 225 N. Fifth St., or by calling 243-6787.

In addition to the showcase, master classes will be offered Saturday Jan. 15, at the Mesa State College Dance Studio.

Jazz with Rachael Harding, who has worked with a number of Denver dance companies and toured the United States as a solo dancer, will be from 10–11:30 a.m.

Hip-hop with Kenny Jimenez, who has the Motion Underground dance studio in Denver and is the choreographer for some national TV shows, will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Master classes cost $16 per class or $23 for both.
