Winter Dance Concert set for Feb. 9-11
Communication, heart health, rhythm and fashion will be addressed through dance at the Beyond Boundaries Dance Collective 2012 Winter Dance Concert.
The dance collective, which is made up of dancers and teachers from the Grand Valley, will give three performances of its concert: 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 9–11, at the Experimental Theater in Colorado Mesa University’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.
Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for students. Tickets may be purchased at beyondboundariesdance.com or at the door. Proceeds will benefit university dance students.
Some of the dance pieces planned for the concert include:
■ “Ink,” choreographed by Connie Foutz Monroe, concerns communication and uses newspapers as visuals, according to a news release.
■ “The last beat of my HEART” by Rebecca Fleishman celebrates the American Heart Association’s February Heart Health Awareness month.
■ “It’s all about the Rhythm,” by Julie Sinnott, is “an upbeat, a cappella tap dance which highlights the flair and technical expertise of the dancers,” the release said.
■ University professor emeritus Ann J. Sanders will offer a premiere work “that delves into the world of fashion” with “illusive images that emerge and dissolve into shadows of gesture and intrigue,” according to the news release. Costumes for the piece were designed by Melody Eggen.
■ Laura Bradley will present part of a work in progress in which the dancers speak — text by Carol Christ — and move to communicate and entertain, the release said.
Those attending the concert also will enjoy dances by Beyond Boundaries’ Liz Vrettos and Analii Cunningham, CMU alumni Tiffany Freeman and Natasha Krasnow, CMU faculty member Melonie Buchanan Murray, and Absolute Dance owner Theresa Kahl Blee and guest artist Rebecca Maniatis.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for students. Proceeds will benefit CMU dance students
