Three women from the Acholi tribe in Walukuba, Uganda, make necklaces for SUUBI (hope), a brand begun by the nonprofit Light Gives Heat. The multicolored necklaces are purchased from the 65 women who make them and then sold in the United States. The income from SUUBI allows the women to better meet their financial needs.

Almost a year ago, the Montrose couple and their now 3-year-old son, Asher, moved to Jinja in southeastern Uganda for six months for work with Light Gives Heat, a nonprofit African aid organization they founded.
