Driver falls asleep, crashes

A 19-year-old Battlement Mesa man was not injured when the GMC pickup he was driving crashed into a retaining wall Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Colorado Highway 13 and Rio Blanco Road 5.

The man appeared to have fallen asleep while heading east on County Road 5. He failed to stop his pickup at the intersection with Highway 13 and crossed the highway before crashing into the wall, the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The driver was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Rock Jam alcohol violations

A total of 77 alcohol-related tickets were issued this year at Rock Jam in Mack, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department reported Sunday.

The two-day event was Friday and Saturday. This year, state and Mesa County undercover officers patrolled the Rock Jam grounds, issuing tickets for underage drinking and providing alcohol to minors.

Last year, 30 alcohol-related tickets were written, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department said.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

Steven Clay Romero, 37, 525 S. First St., No. 41, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He also was booked on suspicion he tried introduce narcotics contraband into Mesa County Jail.

Keisha Duan Stuart, 24, 1801-B11 Railroad Ave., Rifle, and Lynn Marie Parrott, 39, 736 Elder Court, Rifle, were arrested Saturday on suspicion they stole $1,449 worth of items from Wal-Mart, 2545 Rimrock Ave.

Gabriel Paul Rodriguez, 22, 2601 Belford Ave., No. 30, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Janet Marie Odermatt, 52, 564 Huntington Point Lane, Clifton, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of theft of between $1,000 and $20,000.

Anthony Brian Thompson, 18, 1815 6 Road, Mack, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony menacing, prohibited use of a weapon and DUI.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

Dearl James Beam, 47, 3227 White Ave., No. 4, Clifton, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony menacing.

A Sirius radio and remote control were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 400 block of Fox Run Street on Saturday.
