$1,000 reward offered in Devils Kitchen vandalism

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered to anyone who provides information identifying the vandals who damaged the historic Devils Kitchen picnic shelter the night of Aug. 3, according to Colorado National Monument officials.

At least three people on bicycles were seen on video damaging the picnic area, which was built in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Anyone with information can call a tip line at 970-712-2798 and remain anonymous.

The reward money is being offered by local McDonald’s restaurants, monument officials said..

3 valley men arrested in city as suspects in theft of vehicle

Three men were arrested Monday in the 600 block of North Fourth Street in connection with the theft of a vehicle.

Joshua Tyler Hayden, 18, of Loma, Thomas Leo Fitzpatrick III, 760 Galena Drive, and David Joseph Gunderson, 20, 944 T Road, were jailed on suspicion of first-degree auto theft.

Hayden and Gunderson were released from Mesa County Jail on bond. Fitzpatrick was still being held in lieu o a $7,500 co-signed personal recognizance bond.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

• Daniel Lautenschlager, 24, 211 Epps Drive, was arrested early Tuesday morning in connecton with the burglary of a business at 518 28 3/4 Road. A thief stole less than $500 in property and caused less than $500 in damage to the business.

Lautenschlager was jailed on suspicion of second-degree burglary, theft and criminal mischief.

• Officers received two reports Monday of someone stealing cash from two businesses in the 700 block of Horizon Drive. In each instance, less than $1,000 was stolen.

• Someone shot two windows at a business in the 100 block of South Third Street on Monday, causing more than $1,000 in damage.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

• A business owner in the 100 block of Front Street reported Monday that someone entered his salvage yard and stole approximately $1,200 in tires and rooms. The burglar also used a BB gun to shoot out the windows in the man’s tow truck and a van he was attempting to sell, causing an estimated $750 in damage.
