Man dies while biking
Todd Johnston, 42, of Ketchum, Idaho, died Friday in Grand County, Utah, while mountain biking with friends.
At 2:43 p.m. Friday afternoon, emergency personnel responded to the Gold Bar Rim Trail, where Johnston collapsed after he told his friends he was tired and wanted to walk his bike on the trail.
His friends continued without him. After five minutes, they went back down the trail and found Johnston unresponsive. Some motorcycle riders on the trail performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived on scene. CPR was continued for about an hour with no response. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Travis Martin Koehn, 32, 3058 Sandpiper Ave., was arrested Saturday on suspicion of three counts of assault on a peace officer, three counts of criminal attempt, resisting arrest, obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department. Koehn had been named in a separate misdemeanor warrant.
Peeping Tom suspected
The Eagle County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man seen masturbating while staring into first-story windows in the area of Sunny Avenue and Quail Run in the Gypsum, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
One of the residents in the area reported light bulbs outside the home were unscrewed.
Anyone who sees someone lurking outside his or her windows and staring into a home should call 911 immediately.
The Sheriff’s Department wants Gypsum residents to keep windows locked and blinds closed. It will continue to investigate the reports.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
• Dustin Anthony Vogt, 26, 547 U.S. Highway 50, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of second-degree assault, obstruction of an officer and violation of a protection order.
• Burglars cut a hole in the fence on city property, causing about $260 in damage Friday. Once inside the property, the suspect or suspects pried open the door of a car and stole items valued at about $1,500. There are no suspects in the case. No address of this crime was given.
• A thief stole a vehicle from the 2300 block of U.S. Highway 6&50 on Friday, causing the owner a loss of $1,000 to $15,000.
• A thief stole more than $1,000 in items Friday from a vehicle parked near 29 Road and the desert.
• Burglars vandalized and stole items from two businesses and a vehicle in the 500 block of Bogart Lane, causing the owner a loss of more than $1,000 on Thursday.
• Vandals caused more than $1,000 in damage to a vehicle parked in an alley behind 438 Main St. on Thursday.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
• Eric Joseph Weiser, 44, of Denver, was arrested Friday on suspicion of auto theft of a vehicle valued at less than $20,000, trespassing and theft of $500 to $1,000.
• Phillip Shannon Doyle, 24, 262 W. Parkview Drive, was arrested Friday on suspicion of two counts of weapon possession by a previous offender.
• A pumpkin was smashed into a mailbox in the 3500 block of G Road in Clifton, causing $50 in damage Friday.
• An assault was reported Friday in the 3600 block of G Road. The case is being investigated.
