A 76-year-old Grand Junction man who eluded authorities for 12 years and was charged with sex assault on a child was arrested Tuesday attempting to cross the border from Canada into the U.S.
The Associated Press reported that Edward Earl Glaze was facing charges of assaulting a child and soliciting child prostitution, but it was unclear late Thursday night whether Glaze had incurred new charges since 1996.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested Glaze when he tried to enter the country at Oroville, Wash.
Spokesman Mike Milne of U.S. Customs and Border Protection said authorities ran Glaze’s name and learned of his outstanding case.
Glaze was arrested by the Grand Junction Police Department on a child sex assault charge on April 2, 1996, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. That case is still considered unresolved, according to CBI. An Internet search revealed a number of local addresses for an Edward E. Glaze established between 1995 and 2005.
Milne said the case will be turned over to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Department in Oroville. Authorities there are expected to turn the case over to Grand Junction officials.
Milne said border control has ramped up since the 2001 terrorist attacks and more names are checked against national databases for outstanding warrants.
“It’s really gratifying when we can apprehend people, especially when it’s crimes against children,” Milne said. “Bringing people to justice is rewarding.”
