Postal Service carriers statewide plan to collect nonperishable food from residents’ homes and donate the items to local food pantries.
Residents can leave canned foods in plastic sacks near mailboxes. Foods most needed include canned meats, soups, fruits and vegetables; and high protein foods, including milk, pasta, cereal and dried packaged vegetables, such as mashed potatoes and stuffing.
Mail carriers collected more than a million pounds of food last year in Colorado and Wyoming during the one-day National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
