Dog bags four on the lam
Bounty hunter finds Mesa County suspects in Denver area

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman is starting to make good on his promise to round up a dozen Mesa County fugitives wanted on a variety of methamphetamine-related charges.

Four Mesa County residents, all wanted on meth- or fraud-related warrants, are enjoying the hospitality of two Front Range jails as of Tuesday thanks to Chapman, star of A&E’s “Dog the Bounty Hunter” television show.

“So far, so good,” Chapman said. “We got very lucky.”

According to records from the Arapahoe County and Denver City jails, Lydia Marie Ramos, 26; Elizabeth Vaughn Willis, 20; Tedric Corell McCoy, 33; and Nick Evan Angel, 33, are all in custody on bonds totaling more than $144,000.

Willis and Angel are wanted in connection with a series of fraud cases involving thousands of dollars of fake checks passed at Mesa County grocery stores and restaurants.

Louie Perea, a captain with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department, said when Chapman contacted the suspects at an Aurora apartment they were in possession of several forged documents and equipment for making forged driver’s licenses and checks.

Chapman said he and his team’s work, capturing the suspected forgers, likely saved hundreds of Coloradans from having their identities stolen.

“It’s good versus evil, and good always wins,” he said.

Chapman’s big target, however — suspected drug dealer Marco Padilla — has eluded the bounty hunter and his crew.

Chapman said Padilla has two days to turn himself in, “or else.”

“We would rather have Padilla turn himself in to local authorities, wherever he is, or turn himself into myself,” Chapman said.

He said there still are eight fugitives on his list, which he alluded to during a stop in Grand Junction last week.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Dan Rubinstein declined to comment on Chapman’s work but confirmed Padilla is wanted on a series of drug-related charges as well as a $150,000 failure-to-appear warrant.

“Marco Padilla is a person that we’ve been after for drug offenses. … He failed to show up for a (November 2007) jury trial,” Rubinstein said.

He added Padilla is suspected of distributing methamphetamine and using children to “assist in a drug deal.”

Chapman’s moves in the Padilla case come less than a month after Mesa County District Court Judge Valerie Robison issued an order extending the deadline for a St. Louis-based firm to pony up $75,000 in bail fees.

According to an order in Padilla’s 2007 case file, Robison delayed the due date for Safety National Casualty Corp. to Nov. 26.

Former McCoy,

Best of luck to you as well. I take offense to being called a nut so I will call someone on that point.

bellmut,

I can't let it go, I need to add one more comment for you. If you are from the UK either living here or not, I respectfully do not value your opinion at all. Yesterday was the anniversary for the ratification of the United States Constitution. You know, that document ensuring our freedom as United States Citizens as a result of cleaning your country's clock in the revolutionary war? We certainly don't need outsiders like you chiming in with your outside opinions. If it were not for us you would be speaking German.

Ok, what is really going on. Has everyone forgot what is going on here. This is where we can all come and talk about our opinions reguarding this story. I question on if some people are actually adults here. I have read every comment posted on here and I can say I agree with some and disagree with some. I do have appriciation for what everyone has said though and I have really taken everything to thought. Why has this turned to become some crazy argument that has nothing to do with the story? Are we all really falling into this immature state? Come on there are so many other things more important than where your commas or periods are. I just had to state that and get it off my chest. I hope every one is doing well and if anyone has heard of any updates on what is going on with this story, please let me know. Thanks and all my best wishes to you all, and yes including you Publius. Give people a little more of a break!

bellmutt,

Since you feel the need to get personal and attack me as some kind of nut then I will stoop to your level. Your poor grammar says it all about you as well as a couple of other things you stated. First, how do you know I am a male? You just made an assumption.

The best part of your posting is your use of grammar, if not comical, it is very sad to say the least. You stated "i plainly see him for who he is". That "i" should be upper case. Then you start another sentence with "plus, in the UK we never even". The ıplusı needs to be upper case as well. You started the next paragraph with "cant you forget he had a past". Again, the beginning of a sentence after a period should start with an upper case letter, as well as the word ıcantı needing an apostrophe. After this you continue on with what I think may very well be the all time world record for a run on sentence as well as failure to use upper case letters with the rest of your paragraph. Last but not least letıs not forget the ıwtfı comment. I need not speak more about your attitude. You just said it all with this abbreviation. You obviously can not participate in a healthy debate without resorting to some form of cursing. After that comment I do see why you like Dog, you and he are just alike.

Again, you are just another fool who has proven my point about the following Dog has by how you have written your posting. If you want some respect then go back to grade school and learn proper grammar so you have some sort of credibility to back you up here. Once you do so, maybe you can expand your mind to think of the larger issues regarding our society. Nice try though and good luck in the future. I plainly see you for what you are.

To publius, wtf, you do your research on Dog just shows you're one obsessive nut with one thing on his mind. SOme of us dont worship Dog with blind eyes. i plainly see him for who he is, a bounty hunter, on the fringes of the law and his family in tow and it makes good television. plus, in the UK we never even thought bounty hunting existed still in these times, but its better than overcrowded jails like we have over here.

cant you forget he had a past, he wrote it in full plain view for all to see in his book, so we know who he is or what he is. any human makes mistakes, who doesnt? and so what if he is a showman, he did admit in countless interviews he wanted to be a showman, famous or whatever, and he did it. good for him. at least he is famous for being interesting and not being famous for wearing designer bags such as Posh Spice is known for.

Let it be

If I knew that Dog and his crew were in town I would have had them over for dinner. They do so much good work I would want to thank them in person. My husband would love for me to get some fashion tips from Beth.

Hammer I am impressed. I could actually make sense of what you wrote and I respect some of your opinions. If you chose to dissect my posting feel free to flow with personal attack. I will take the high road and stick to the facts instead. My posting actually worked in at least getting someone to find some real facts. I enjoy a good spirited debate. I feel the need to go out and do something more productive than spend my time here so this will be my final posting. It seems everyone idolizing Dog in these postings are thinking from an emotional perspective and not a logical one. It has been said no good decision is ever made when one is angry or emotional. Most of the posting here have proven that point because people fail to see the bigger picture or deeper issues. I will reiterate two points in closing for everyone to ponder.

The first point is that we only see Dog based on his television appearance. I encourage everyone here to read the rest of the story and gather facts about Dogıs past. After examining his personal life, even after his so called rehabilitation in prison, you may find Dog is not the person you or your children need to be looking up to. I donıt care how many bad guys Dog arrests. Everything he does is built on a false foundation of being the spot light of the camera. Hammer I have done my research on this one and I encourage you to do the same. Itıs to lengthy to post here, but I think if you look at the whole picture you might be scratching your head wondering why everyone is enamored with this individual. I would have more respect for Dog if he did his job quietly with out the cameras, like speaking softly and carrying a big stick. Hammer, as for the comment about Dog being a movie star, it was a metaphor for his celebrity status. Finally for Des, donıt make assumptions about my ıvocationı. I am a professional in my vocation and I can assure you if you knew what did for a living you would be eating your words and you would be left speechless. Letıs just say I donıt hide under my bed.

This is a lead in to my second point and the most important. One does not have to look hard to see what a spectacle Dog makes of himself on camera all in the name of catching bad guys - his pretty braided hair, his macho sleeveless t- shirts, his tough attitude, and the list goes on. As for myself I look up to individuals like Patrick Tillman, who as a highly paid NFL football player gave up millions of dollars to quietly and secretly volunteer to fight the war on terror. This is a hero for your children to look up to. Former McCoy maybe you should introduce your child to Patrick Tillmanıs story. What a stark contrast to Dog and what he represents. This all about making money and our society is sick with watching shows like Dogıs that makes a spectacle out of peoples personal lives all for personal profit. . Why canıt he do just as well with out all of the cameras following? Oh thatıs right I forgot again, itıs about the money. I wonıt be watching his show three months down the road when it airs, it disgusts me like the rest of the reality shows on television. No wonder our society is in the toilet.
