Pols to swing through GJ

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., along with former Gov. Roy Romer and Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture John Stulp, will stop in Grand Junction Friday afternoon as part of a rural policy tour in support of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The trio will speak at noon at the Lincoln Park Pavilion.

The group also plans to stop in Olathe at the White Cafe at 7:30 a.m. Friday and in Hotchkiss at 9:30 a.m. at the Heritage Hall, inside the Delta County Fairgrounds.

Pipeline work extended

Work on the Bull Mountain pipeline that was to have been completed by Oct. 1 will be allowed to continue through Thursday, the U.S. Forest Service said.

The additional days of work will allow for the completion of tie-ins in the vicinity of the boundaries of the White River and the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison national forests. Tie-ins are pipeline sections left for completion until the end of the construction process. They include wetlands crossings, intersection points and junctions of long sections of completed pipeline.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recommended wetlands crossings be completed this fall during their driest state. The Colorado Division of Wildlife concurred, noting the work would be completed before Saturday, opening day of the first big-game rifle hunt.

GJ man named to commission

Gov. Bill Ritter announced today he has appointed Larry Clever, a Grand Junction resident, to the state’s Ground Water Commission.

Clever is the general manager of Ute Water.

Contributions can be sent to the Lewie Willson Benefit Account, Montrose Bank, 200 North Townsend Ave., Montrose 81401. For more information call 249-3408 or 249-5641.
