Police say a man who died Oct. 19 when his vehicle plunged more than 700 feet off the Transfer Trail, near an area known as Windy Point in Garfield County, was more than three times over the legal limit for alcohol and had traces of marijuana in his system. The man’s 9-year-old son, a passenger in the vehicle, also died in the accident.

James Blissett, 41, of Lakewood, had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.296 percent, and marijuana metabolytes were detected in his urine, according to a Garfield County autopsy report released Thursday.

In Colorado, a 0.08 blood-alcohol concentration is considered driving under the influence, while a 0.05 percent blood-alcohol content is considered driving while ability impaired.

The report concluded that Blissett and his son, Jessy, died of blunt force injuries to the head, according to the report.

Jessy Blissett was thrown from the vehicle as it tumbled down the cliff. His body was found 300 feet below the roadway, according to the autopsy performed at Community Hospital in Grand Junction.

Jessy Blissett’s toxicology report showed no alcohol or drugs, according to the report.
